With the race tighter than “a too-small bathing suit on a too-long car ride back from the beach” (thanks Dan Rather), Ruth and I headed up to Reno to help out the Bernie campaign before the caucus.<\/p>\n

We canvassed in several working-class neighborhoods, telling people where to find their polling place, and how the caucus process works. Did you know that in the event of a tied precinct with an odd number of delegates, the remainder is decided by a high-card draw? This is Nevada, after all. We had mostly positive reactions from folks, and enjoyed civil discussions with a few Hillary supporters, and one or two registered Republicans.<\/p>\n

\nThe next weekend, we helped organize a bus of volunteers for the Bernie rally at the Nugget casino. We actually had more participants than expected, and so in addition to a bus captained by Emily, we drove a 15-passenger van. After the long drive to Reno, we arrived in time for the familiar stump speech, and enjoyed spotting celebrity endorsers Susan Sarandon and Dick Van Dyke. We dropped volunteers off in more diverse neighborhoods than before, and drove all over Reno to coordinate their safe return. <\/p>\n
