The great thing about a yacht holiday is you just have to unpack once, and then the boat is your home for a week. Our first port stop is just across the channel on the island of Hvar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Because we are early in the season, we got a spot right on the quay. Toni says that in a month the whole bay will be full; but today it is calm, the nights are quiet, and the bars are full of locals. He knows everyone, and scoots around to run errands quickly on two wheels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For my birthday dinner, he was able to get a spot to open just for us. They made a traditional peka, octopus baked with potatoes and white wine, buried under a wood coals for a long time. Thank you Velo Misto<\/a> for cooking us an amazing traditional meal!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wind was still high on the 1st, so we did an inland walk and wine tasting instead of heading out on the water. A taxi took us to Vrboska, where we walked a few kilometers along the coast to Jelsa. There the Dubokovi\u0107 Winery<\/a> had excellent varietals to taste in their cave. I particularly liked their Laganini and Medvejedica labels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ruth also surprised me with a captain’s hat and Kelsey found a festive “birthday boy” button, so I was easy to identify as the man of the hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
