It&#8217;s a long way up the island, but worth the trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The UNESCO World Heritage site and Parks Canada do a great job at respectfully capturing the symbolism of the first contact between Europeans and indigenous North Americans, predating Columbus by 500 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similar to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.levinger.net\/josh\/2024\/10\/19\/eiriksstadir-to-reykjavik\">Eriksstadir<\/a>, a reconstructed sod house and actors in period garb make the Vineland site come to life. Earlier in the summer you can often see icebergs from here, but we&#8217;ve <a href=\"https:\/\/www.levinger.net\/josh\/category\/travel\/argentina-and-antarctica\">already done that<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/jlevinger\/54704844914\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54704844914_bb01f69288.jpg\" alt=\"Andrea Joy\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">From the dock of the Daily Catch<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Then Janet, Lou, Cindy, Cathy, Barb, Paula, and three dogs all departed for their crossing of Labrador.
