We fueled up with a quick pastry and coffee across by the dock, and then into the boat for a Wild Fjord Tour.

The water was a bit choppy, but another passenger shared her drugs with me and that helped a bit. She also had those cool glasses that keep a horizon level line in your peripheral vision, which look sick as hell. No one barfed!

We spotted eagles, otters, seals, sea lions, a few humpbacks, but sadly no orcas. Stopped at the Chiswell islands to see the cool rock spires, and then went all the way up to Aialik glacier. I don’t believe we came this far last time I did the tour, and although the weather was a bit wet, it was great to see this expanse of blue ice and the calving glacier face.

Cold as Ice

Smiling in the Rain

Aialik Glacier Panorama. We were sent to The Cookery, and had our bast Alaskan meal yet. There was a bit of a wait, so we put our name in and walked around the old town. It was neat to see the start of Iditarod, and signs for the formerly Japanese owned business district.

After an about an hour we got seats at the bar. We got their famous mushroom toast, grilled Argentine cheese, a bowl of halibut stew, a big chimichurri ribeye for me, and a pot du chocolate and a glass of port to finish. We deserve it after this epic sibling trip.

For our final morning, we got coffee at Resurrect Art cafe, which occupies an old church, and then drove back to Anchorage. I had to pull over at a photo spot by the road for one final selfie.

North!

Portage Creek Lillies

I dropped Hannah at the Anchorage museum, as her flight is a bit later than mine, and then went to Ted Stevens to return our gear and car.
