Adventures at home, abroad, and online

Yosemite

As part of our one adventure per weekend policy, Ruth and I left the city for Yosemite this weekend. Stayed south of the park in a campground in the Sierra National Forest, but drove into the park on Saturday. We know we’re not quite in shape for Half Dome, but we initially considered doing a 14-mile Glacier Point loop as an alternative. But the 100 degree weather and our own inertia won out, and we ended up doing a lovely 7-mile loop off the Tioga road to Cathedral Lake.

On Sunday we woke late, on account of the copious cheap wine and smores cooked over the campfire. Swam in Bass Lake, had lunch in Mariposa, and then drove back to the bay. The air conditioner decided to quit in the hottest part of the central valley, but once we crested Altamont Pass, the cool bay breeze appeared to welcome us home.

White Water and Red Wine

Ruth booked a groupon for this adventure nearly a year ago, and we had to use it before it expired, so we had back-to-back outdoor weekends. Lots of fun drinking wine and charging rapids in gold country.

Bought photos for an exorbitant price from a photography company on the shore, so I had some fun with iMovie turning them into a commercial for California.

Lost Coast

Headed up the coast for Memorial Day, renting a “cabin” with Maude and some friends. Went for a hike at Gold Bluff beach up a fern covered canyon that was used to film some scenes in the lost world. Enjoyed the jacuzzi at night, keeping warm in the fog.

New Hosting

I finally got around to moving this site from my long-standing host to one that should be faster, cheaper, and more reliable. Goodbye iPowerweb, hello Namecheap.

Also took the opportunity to move from my old custom theme to a more modern one to make it easier to maintain in the future. Looking into upgrading from Gallery version 2 to 3, but the wordpress integration plugin I use hasn’t been totally updated yet. Onward and upward.
