Woke up early again to try our luck at tracking again; today, chimpanzees. The Kyambura river makes a deep cut in the valley floor, and it is filled with dense and humid jungle. We descended on a slippery mud path, crossed the river on a rickety wooden bridge, and walked along the side looking up in the trees for our quarry.

Unfortunately, we didn’t see any chimpanzees, although Emmy said he heard them soon after we left the truck at the rim. We did find a lone hippo, and our guide shouted and banged his gun until it flopped into the water with a splash. After a few hours going up and down the valley, we were sweaty and tired, and headed back to the lodge for some refreshing showers and slow but functional internet. We sat in the lounge, watching brilliant blue lizards and drinking Tusker; not a bad end to our safari.
