Visiting the Dominican Republic to meet a new friend and enjoy the sand and city.

We flew from SF to NY overnight and then to La Romana, on the eastern side of the island. A quick cab ride through the rain and we were in the fishing village of Bayahibe and much warmer and more humid than where we’d left. We took it slow the first day, walking through town and towards the resort area on a well trodden but lightly maintained path through the forest by the sea.

The next day we took a boat cruise to Saona island, which was recommended by the friend we are here to visit. It’s a bit of a party scene with seemingly unlimited rum drinks, and one of the participants got a bit too drunk on the ride over to even enjoy the rest of her birthday on the beach. But we surely enjoyed the island’s soft sand, picture perfect palm trees, and cheap pina coladas.
