We rode the ferry from Hyannis with our bikes and Whiskey along for the ride. He’s such a good traveler and loved going for long walks to the beach.

Staying at Janet and Lou’s friend’s place near Dionis Beach, which was far enough out of town that it felt like the countryside, but still easily located along the bike trail. I woke up early for a sunrise at Sankaty Light and walked along the Sconset Bluff path to see the houses, big and small.

On Saturday we rode to Madaket beach for afternoon tacos at Millie’s market and got a glimpse of the windmills far offshore.

Dinner at Straight Wharf had an excellent atmosphere and food, and we enjoyed their two course meal to the fullest by ensuring everyone got a different dish. That’s just how you have to order with the Sables.

The next morning I got an alert from my Alpenglow app, so I left the house at 5am and got to Brant Point an hour before sunrise and any other photographers. The color was stunning, and I was very pleased with the texture I was able to capture in the sky. Will definitely be printing this one.

After morning pastries at Handlebar, I returned to the cabin to take Whiskey on a walk to the beach. He picked out a few souvenirs, and checked out a freshly dead Horseshoe crab.

We toured the Nantucket Whaling Museum to learn more about the brutal history of this wealthy island enclave, and the lives of the men and women whose work made it possible. They did a good job with the colonial context, and the economics of the first energy cartel setting the price for candles.

Our last dinner at Oran Mor was also excellent, and we enjoyed their long whiskey menu and decadent truffle pastas. The ferry back was a little rougher, and people are already concerned about the possibility of a Nor’easter next weekend. We’ll be watching the weather from home.
