We are done with landings, but have two more days on the ship to get back to Ushuaia.

A less early morning today, we awoke in a sheltered cove that used to be a favorite of whaling vessels during storms. We took the zodiacs out for a calm cruise on glassy water perfect for reflections. The falling snow gave a bit of atmosphere, and a thin coating of freshwater on top of the sea was just beginning to freeze.

It was also one of the most wildlife-filled cruises of the trip. We saw crabeater seals, blue-eyed shags, a humpback whale, and a group of Weddell seals chilling on the ice. The hotel staff also came out on a zodiac and served us hot chocolate with Jameson or peppermint schnapps. These people know how to show us a good time.

Back on the ship and up to the sauna again, then a Scandinavian lunch of fish stew and meatballs, finished with a berry crumble a shot of aquavit.

We also took a long planned photo of Ruth and I with the ship’s captain. This is our tenth anniversary trip, and we wanted to mark it somewhere special.
